Meet the Founder
Sabrina Mehlhorn (she, her)
Sabrina is a passionate community builder, gardener, and educator with a deep-rooted belief in the power of outdoor learning. The idea for Ready, Set, Grow! School Garden Network blossomed during her time as the School Garden Coordinator at Spanger Elementary School, where she saw firsthand the transformational impact of school gardens on students, families, and the broader school community. Under her leadership, 95% of students at Spanger participated in monthly garden-based learning, supported by an enthusiastic team of parent volunteers.

Before moving to California, Sabrina built two thriving community gardens in Vancouver, Canada, from the ground up—creating inclusive, welcoming spaces where neighbors could learn, grow, and connect. Her career in community development also includes serving as a Community Engagement Specialist at United Way British Columbia, where she collaborated with local partners to strengthen families and improve neighborhood well-being.

Sabrina also founded and successfully ran a vibrant farmers' market in Canada for four years, gaining valuable experience in nonprofit leadership, volunteer coordination, grant writing, and sustainable food systems.

Now in California, Sabrina is channeling her passion, experience, and vision into building a network of flourishing school gardens across Placer County—where every child can dig into the soil, connect with nature, and grow something meaningful.
